    UNDERSTANDING WOMEN - (A MAN'S PERSPECTIVE)

I know I'm not going to understand women. I'll never understand how you can take boiling hot wax, pour it onto your upper thigh, rip the hair out by the root, and STILL be afraid of a spider.

What Can We Do to Keep Our Children Safe From Predators

As parents, our children's health and safety is our number one concern. But what can a working parent do when it seems as though the amount of predators and violence against children is increasing? Even school, once a safe haven for kids, is now a place to be aware of the dangers lurking around them.

    The Challenge
There are currently 566,782 registered sex offenders in the United States. Sex offenders pose an enormous challenge for policy makers: they evoke unparalleled fear; their offenses are associated with a great risk of psychological harm; and most of their victims are children and youth. As policy makers address the issue of sex offenders, they are confronted with some basic realities.

    • Most sex offenders are not in prison, and those who are tend to serve limited sentences
    • Most sex offenders are largely unknown to people in the community.
    • Sex offenders have a high risk of re-offending
    • While community supervision and oversight is widely recognized as essential, the system for providing such supervision is overwhelmed

    Loopholes in Current State Programs
The increased mobility of our society has led to “lost” sex offenders, those who fail to comply with registration duties yet remain undetected due to law enforcement’s inability to track their whereabouts. A conservative estimate of the number of “lost” sex offenders is at least 100,000 nationwide. The wide disparity among the state programs in both registration and notification procedures permits sex offenders to “forum-shop,” research which states have the least stringent laws, in order to live in communities with relative anonymity.

Moms In Business Network and The International Association of Working Mothers is committed to doing something about this situation. We are now working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to help give you the resources available to protect your children. In addition, they will be the beneficiary of the 2007 Cre ate Your Dreams Awards Gala.

For parents and kids, the Center has developed a program called Net Smartz - a free resource for your kids to learn to use the Internet safely.

    Contact Your Representatives
Click here to connect with your state representatives and tell them that you want federally enforced standards for child predators.

Top 10 Sales Mistakes (Part 1 of 5)

    1. Not listening. Do not just listen to what the customer is asking for; look past that to find out what they need. Too often salespeople sing the praises of a product without hearing what the customer wants. You cannot sell to someone if you do not know what they want. Listen to your customers, identify the need, and fill it.

    2. Overselling. A nonstop sales pitch leaves your potential customer with no room to make an intelligent decision. There is a fine line between being a good salesperson and being pushy or obnoxious. Know when to stop selling.
