Bone Drug Alert - Women are especially susceptible to osteoporosis, so pay attention to this alert. People taking Fosamax ans similar drugs to enchance bone desnity may risk a very rare but dangerous side- effect: "jawbone death".

Medical journals are reporting hundreds of cases where patients taking drugs known as "bisphosphonates" developed osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). This disfiguring disease is hard to treat.

The problem predominately arises in cancer patients who have received the drugs intraveneously and then visit the dentist for an invasive dental procedure such as a root canal. It seems that the disease is triggered by the invasive dental procedure. However, some patients have come down with ONJ just by taking pills like Fosamax or Actonel. Susan Ott, M.D. an osteoporosis expert at the University of Washington, suggests tht the drug may be oversued in women who overestimate their risk for osteoporosis, but warns that women with full- blown osteoporosis should not avoid the drugs because of risk of ONJ is ver small.

If you are taking biophosphonates, alert all your medical professionals before treatment.

The Only Business Grants for Working Moms - Recently Cheleen Morgan, owner of THE ANTIQUE MALL in Las Vegas, NV, was telling a group of MIBN members that the reason she joined MIBN was that according to her research, the Create Your Dreams Business Grant is the ONLY grant in the U.S. offered exclusively to mom business owners.

Lucky for her she did join and apply for the grant because she was named as one of the recipients of the 2006 grants which gave her $1000 in cash and $4000 in business services. She'll be opening up her new Tea Room in August '06.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2007 grants.

Driving Miss Crazy? - This is not the nickname you want when driving in heated traffic or on those family roadtrips this summer. If traffic drives you crazy, mint may help. In a recent study at Wheeler Jesuit University in W.V., people using a driving simulator reported lower anxiety, frustrations and fatigue when exposed to a peppermine scent. Spray minty air scent or pop a breath mint while you drive suggest the study's author, Brayan Raudenbush, Ph.D.
