Can You Reduce You Business Gas Expense by 50%? - It may be possible. In a recent report by CNN's Money writer, Steve Hargreaves, some company fleets are going "vegetarian". Advocates say using vegetable oil in their diesel vehicles couldn't be easier. It takes a simple conversion that pays for itself in gas savings within weeks. Business owners using vegetable oil instead of gas pay as low as $1.50 per gallon, and it burns clean which is better on the environment.

Businesses are buying the vegetable oil waste from local restaurants. Usually restauranteurs have to pay to have the oil removed, and if you're willing to pick up and strain the oil yourself, you may be able to get it for FREE!

Not sure if it is worth it for you?

If your company will do pick up and straining, just multiply your monthly gas bill times zero. (Yes, that equals FREE gas) If you want full service, take 50% or so off your monthly gas bill. With diesel fuel at $3+ per gallon, it may be well worth the extra work of finding a local supplier.

If you don't use diesel, but still want to same money on your gas, in next week's issue we'll provide great gas-saving resources for the average driver!

5 Scams You Should Know About - On average, a consumer fraud victim today loses between $2,000 and $3,000. The National Consumers League says more consumers than ever are reporting that they have been victims of consumer fraud.

Most scams are classic scams with a new twist. If you know these, you may be able to recognize them before you get caught up as a victim.

ALERT - MINORITY & WOMEN BUSINESS OWNERS - Las Vegas, NV will be the host city for the events and activities known as NBA All-Star 2007, culminating with the 2007 NBA All-Star Game on February 18, 2007. The goal of the program is to provide minority and women-owned businesses the opportunity to fulfill the NBA’s All-Star procurement needs.

Through this program and other initiatives, the NBA has established a track record of building strong relationships with local businesses in previous All-Star host cities. Most recently in connection with NBA All- Star 2006 in Houston, over 100 local businesses participated in the program. A majority of those businesses received contract bid opportunities and the total dollars spent with minority and women- owned businesses was well over $1 million.

The first step of the program is to produce a Vendor Resource Guide for NBA All-Star 2007. The guide will list by business category qualified local woman and minority-owned vendors and relevant contact information. The guide will serve as a central source of merchants for the NBA, its partners and its primary vendors as they seek to procure local products and services.

The NBA is currently searching for vendors to include in the 2007 Vendor Resource Guide. Their application is easy to access to ALL MIBN MEMBERS once you have logged in. Included in the application is a listing of products/services they are looking for. If your business provides any of the products/services listed in the application and you are interested in pursuing bid opportunities, please complete the application and return it to the NBA by no later than, August 2, 2006. Fill in all requested information as they will only respond to completed applications.
