The Weekly Giggle
An elderly woman died last month. Having never married, she requested no male pallbearers.
In her handwritten instructions for her memorial service, she wrote, "They wouldn't take me out while I was alive, I don't want them to take me out when I'm dead."

5 Tips on Hiring a Public Relations Firm
1. Be clear on what you want from a public relations effort. Some things a PR firm can do for you are to get you positive exposure in the media, create and conduct special events, and help you build and maintain a solid reputation.
2. Be realistic about what a PR firm cannot do. It cannot whitewash an unethical business or cover up fraud or other illegal activities.
3. Interview a number of firms. Get their ideas on how they can help you and seriously consider those with the best ideas.
4. If you are looking for only local publicity, hire a local firm. But if you want a national program, your PR firm can be anywhere.
5. Once you've hired a company, keep your account executive fully informed about your business. Treat him or her as part of your strategic team.

5 Tips on Knowing When You're Getting Stale
1. If you've been running your business 10 years or more, it's probably time for fresh leadership. Consider bumping yourself up to chairman and getting a new CEO.
2. Recognize that fatigue and boredom are signs you've been at the helm too long.
3. Answer honestly: Are you resistant to new ideas and risks? It so, you may be impeding your company's progress.
4. Ask yourself if you are still growing and learning. If not, that's another sign of personal stagnation as a leader.
5. If you think you're becoming too set in your views, surround yourself with people who challenge your thinking.

3. Participate in special programs. Many colleges and universities sponsor venture capital forums, entrepreneurship centers and family business programs.
4. Work with the business school to offer internships to graduate students.
5. Find out what expertise is on a business school's staff. You may find just the right person to hire as a consultant or serve on your board.

5 Tips for Pleasing Customers
1. Teach employees to answer the phone with smiles on their faces. Phone experts say that customers will hear the smile in the employees' voices.
2. Hire people who love people.
3. Require that employees speak clearly and slowly enough to be understood-especially on the phone. Nothing turns off customers more quickly than impatient, sullen, or indifferent employees.
4. Make sure employees have a thorough understanding of your products and services so they can answer customer questions.
5. Give employees leeway to meet customer needs. Does a vegetarian in your restaurant want a meatless meal? Be sure waiters know they can make substitutions.

Moms Making A Difference
Lisa Hammond- Creating Careers One Piece of Art at a Time
Femail Creations is a $6m+ catalog company focusing on art and products made by women for women. Here's Herstory:
Femail Creations was born out of a passion to make a difference in the lives of women and girls. At the time the seeds of this dream were first planted I was managing a construction company.
The idea of creating a catalog seemed like the perfect chance to combine my creative side with my passion for women's issues. I didn't want to let the fact that I had absolutely no experience in the cataloging field stop me- and it hasn't! I have found that the best experience has been years of being a catalog shopper. As a mother and a businesswoman I rely heavily on the convenience of catalog shopping and delivery right to my door.
Being a catalog fiend, I often wished a woman-owned catalog would show up in my mailbox that I could support with my shopping dollars. When that catalog never came, I decided to do it myself. The process has been completely overwhelming at times and required more courage than I ever imagined. Many late nights and long hours have gone into this dream. All of the positive letters, touching stories and great feedback from the customers and artists keep me going.
Focusing support on women artists and women-owned businesses is unique to Femail Creations. As a women business owner, I know all too well how hard it is to get a company off the ground. I want to support women who dare to make that leap. I feel strongly about honoring women artist and validating their work. Our products are by, for and / or about women.
I began Femail Creations as a way to make a difference. I have mortgaged my house and worked hours I frankly didn¹t think were humanly possible because this is a dream I believe in. I want women to laugh, and to inspire them to dream big. From the very first issue Femail Creations has featured a charity on the inside back cover. I feel strongly about the principal of giving back. As our family of "femails" grows so to will our ability to give back.
We rely heavily on word-of-mouth to get the news of Femail Creations out. So keep talking!
