Our newsletter gives you weekly tips you can use to build your career and business while trying to maintain some balance. Each week we give you a marketing tip, a business tip, a sales tip, and a work/life balance tip. Here are this weeks tips:
Business Tip
We all know it’s coming and we all know it’s inevitable, and we all have a pit in our stomach when we think about it…CHANGE. Here’s a tip to help you prepare for change.
Examine your corporate culture to discover any impediments to change. Some traditions and practices may need to be revamped to meet new needs. This reminds me of that story of the easter ham when the little girl asks her mother why she cuts the ends of the ham before she bakes it. The mothers says, I don’t know, my mother and my grandmother have done it that way for 50 years, so I do it. Ask grandma. The girl ask grandma and grandma says, “Well, that’s the way my mother did it, and we’ve been doing it that way for 50 years. Ask great grandma. So the little girl asks great grandma why she cuts off the ends of the easter ham. “Oh, she says, I didn’t have a pan big enough to fit the ham in, so I cut off the ends.” It’s time to examine what old limitations are keeping you from moving forward and adjusting to change.
Marketing Tip
I’m always asked about how to do Market Research that is simple and cost-effective. Nowadays, market research is easier than ever with the internet. But to make it even simpler, do the following.
1- Seek associations that have the same target market you do, and look at their demographic information and what services and products they are providing.
2- Seek magazines and publications that have the same target market you do, and download their media kit demographics.
3- Ask the government. They have volumes of free research data for you to access
Sales Tip
As the economy changes, sales may be harder to achieve, here’s a tip that will do well for you no matter what the economy looks like:
Educate your customers. Entrepreneurs whose businesses are ahead of the curve need to help customers understand the value of their products or services. Show customers that you are an asset to them. Prove that you can improve their businesses or enhance their lives. Then give them incentives to keep buying.
Work/Life Balance Tip
So now that you’ve prepared for change, done your market research to adjust to change, and improved your sales skills for a changing economy; how are you going to find balance during change? The #1 tip for managing the stress of change is to keep a positive attitude. Ways to keep up that positive attitude can be through meditation or prayer, a healthy sex life, or having the support and social activity with friends. All of which also add years to your life. If you don’t have time for any of these….then lock yourself in the bathroom for five minutes with a joke book. Nothing brings on a positive attitude faster than laughter.
And Finally...
The winner of the $240 one-year membership to the Effectiveness club is Rona Berry-Morin, Manager of American Mini Storage in Las Vegas, NV. Congratulations Rona!
And that's it for February 6th, 2008. Look for us next Wednesday when we visit your inbox, and thank you for inviting us into your life.
Have a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous Week!
Sincerely,
